Tom is a Partner in the financial services regulation practice. Tom has experience in a wide range of UK and EU regulation with a focus on the regulation of sales and trading of financial products including all asset classes of derivatives (OTC and ETD, cleared and prime brokerage arrangements), spot FX, repos and SFTs, transferable securities (debt and equity) and crypto currencies.

Tom completed two secondments and a virtual secondment in the legal teams of three joint PRA- and FCA-regulated sell side firms. These secondments coincided with the implementation of EMIR, MiFID2 and Brexit planning and involved a mix of project and day-to-day advisory and documentation work.

Tom has experience advising on MiFID2, EMIR and EMIR Refit, SFTR, Benchmarks Regulation, regulatory capital rules, Market Abuse Regulation, Short Selling Regulation and BRRD among others. Tom has particular experience in advising on market infrastructure regulation and documentation in respect of platforms and venues, systematic internalisers, direct market access, algorithmic and other electronic trading, clearing and settlement.

Tom has also negotiated agreements including terms of business, broker agreements, master agreements such as ISDAs, GMRAs, GMSLAs, related confirmations, futures and options terms, market access agreements and both direct and indirect clearing agreements.
