Brussels

Our Belgian practice has been established in 1962 as the first international office of Simmons. We provide full-service legal advice to international clients.

Based in Brussels our team acts for a broad range of clients including Belgian and international corporates, private equity funds, asset managers and financial institutions, as well as SMEs, spin-offs and start-ups.

Full-service

With a wealth of knowledge and expertise, our Belgian law team advises our clients on corporate, corporate finance, financial services, real estate, insurance, employment and employee benefits, pensions, public procurement, intellectual property and data protection (GDPR). Our disputes team represents clients before Belgian courts (in civil and commercial, administrative and criminal disputes) as well as in international and domestic arbitration proceedings.

And of course, taking advantage of our proximity to the EU institutions,, we have a well-established EU competition and antitrust team that provides a comprehensive service in relation to competition law (merger control, restrictive practices, investigations and State aid) and general EU law. The team represents clients before the European Commission, national competition authorities, EU and national courts.

Sector expertise

Drawing on vast experience, our office assists the asset management and investment sector and the financial institutions sector on all regulatory financial and banking law aspects. Given the nature of the sector we work closely with our colleagues in Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Having very significant expertise in regulatory legislation in the healthcare and life science sector, we have a dedicated team that gives guidance to the full legal scope of healthcare and life sciences companies both at EU and Belgian levels. Our knowledge includes market access (including qualification and classification of products and pricing and reimbursement issues), regulatory work, compliance (including interactions with HCPs and HCOs), intellectual property and product liability. Digital health and artificial intelligence in the health sector are key topics that we handle on a regular basis

Furthermore, our team has also extensive knowledge in the TMT sector with a focus on embracing new technology and bringing innovation to the market.

For real estate matters, we are able to assist our clients by combining our technical excellence and in-depth local market knowledge. Our legal advice is including corporate commercial law and transactions, litigation and lease. We work closely with our integrated international network of offices and our clients benefit from our long established reputation in the Belgian market.
