International Women's Day: break the bias

This International Women’s Day, we filmed a documentary to highlight our people who champion equality and empower women all year round.

Break the bias

The theme for this year's International Women’s Day, is break the bias.

At Simmons, we've made great strides in neutralising the bigger biases around motherhood, identity, and femininity thanks to the work of our gender network, The Number One Club (TNOC) and the support of leaders who recognise that gender equality should be a core business imperative.

We're particularly proud of the fact that over the last three years, nearly 50 percent of our partner promotions were women.

But there’s more work to be done. In all workplaces around the world, there are still gender biases which adversely impact women and their careers. Women still experience smaller micro biases in the workplace which we can only overcome when we discuss them in a supportive and open environment that brings men and women together. This is why our networks like TNOC (gender), EMerge (race and ethnicity), and our LGBT+ group are important forums for discussing how to break the bias.

Our International Women's Day documentary

We collaborated with ITN Productions to share our approach to gender balance in the firm.

Check out our documentary below, which features interviews with TNOC co-chair Emma Sutcliffe, crime partner Camilla de Silva and the firm’s senior partner, Julian Taylor.
