Carbon Markets: An introductory guide
An introductory guide co-authored with Climate Solutions, summarising the carbon market evolution, with legal and regulatory analysis of carbon markets.
Understanding the carbon markets
Carbon markets support countries and companies in reducing their greenhouse gas emissions by facilitating the trading of emissions. In order to achieve the Paris Agreement goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is imperative. Consequently, carbon markets are essential tools in combatting the climate crisis, however, a greater understanding of carbon markets is needed to unlock the resources required to make a meaningful impact in reducing the effects of climate change. As such, we have supported Climate Solutions in producing an introductory guide to carbon markets, in order to create one central resource which helps readers develop an understanding of carbon markets.
What does the guide discuss?
This introductory guide discusses:
- the terminology used in carbon markets;
- key differences between the compliance, voluntary and sovereign carbon markets;
- the lifecycle of a carbon offset;
