China data protection law webinar
Join our webinar where you’ll hear about two important recent updates on China data protection law
Please join us at this webinar where you’ll hear about two important recent updates on China data protection law and its potential implications on financial institutions and asset managers’ data compliance obligations in China. Think it doesn’t apply to you? Think again. These are among the most important pieces of Chinese laws in the market and will have extra-territorial effects – if your firm provides services or profile China-based individuals, you’ll be covered.
Jingyuan Shi, Partner and Head of our China TMT team, and our Chinese data specialist Yuchen Lai, will be speaking on the draft Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL). Once finalised, it will be the first comprehensive law on personal data protection in China and one of the three pillars of China data protection legal regime. It applies to the processing of both internal employee data as well as processing of external customer / user data. The draft PIPL borrows many key concepts from the GDPR and will be relevant to any financial institution or asset manager which services or profiles China-based individuals. Financial institutions and asset managers may even be on the frontline of regulatory scrutiny and may very likely be subject to more stringent rules than others, given the sensitive nature of the financial sector and the data they process.
