Simmons strengthens US securities practice with senior ECM lawyer

Simmons & Simmons has hired experienced US securities specialist Ben Novick in a major strengthening of its leading Equity Capital Markets (ECM) practice.

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced the hire of experienced US securities specialist Ben Novick in a major strengthening of its market-leading Equity Capital Markets (ECM) capabilities.

Ben joins the firm’s London office from UBS Investment Bank, where he was co-head of the ECM and M&A Advisory legal team for EMEA. Prior to this, he worked in the US securities team at another global law firm.

A highly-regarded US securities lawyer, Ben brings nearly two decades of experience advising on major ECM and M&A transactions across EMEA, including complex cross-border equity offerings and Rule 144A private placements involving US securities laws.

Ben’s appointment as Counsel further strengthens Simmons & Simmons’ US securities offering and he will work closely with partner Charles Hawes.

His arrival further enhances the firm’s ability to advise issuers, shareholders, and investment banks on the full spectrum of ECM transactions, from IPOs and secondary offerings to complex demergers and reverse takeovers.

Commenting on Ben Novick’s appointment, Jamie Corner, Head of Public Markets, said: “Ben’s deep expertise in US securities law and extensive experience with high-profile, cross-border transactions will be invaluable to our practice. His arrival is a central part of our growth ambitions and supports our commitment to providing best-in-class advice on the most complex and international public company matters.

Ben Novick added: “I am excited to join Simmons & Simmons’ outstanding ECM team. The firm’s integrated approach and international platform provide a fantastic opportunity to support clients on their most important transactions, and I look forward to contributing to the continued growth and success of the practice.
