Sonia specialises in structured finance and derivatives (SFD) with a focus on financial regulatory and advisory matters and her appointment further bolsters the firm’s market leading position in securitisation, capital markets and derivatives in Singapore.
She brings over 20 years of experience in providing legal and regulatory advice to the financial derivatives markets as well as structuring and supporting complex SFD transactions. She has extensive experience in advising on regulatory issues and market reform relating to the derivatives and structured product market, including on interbank offer rates (IBOR) transition. She primarily advises APAC and global financial institutions on both English law and Singaporean law related issues.
Before joining Simmons & Simmons, Sonia led the growth and development of the Singapore/South East Asia derivatives and structured product practice at Linklaters. Prior to that, she was a Managing Director at JPMorgan and led its Asia-Pacific Regulatory Team. With her in-house experience, she brings with her a unique insight to the global financial markets.
