Simmons expands growing private equity team with new partner in London

Simmons & Simmons has further strengthened its private equity capabilities with the hire of partner Gemma Phillips in its UK Corporate practice.

International law firm Simmons & Simmons has further strengthened its private equity capabilities with the hire of partner Gemma Phillips in its UK Corporate practice.

Joining Simmons’ growing private equity team based in London, Gemma moves to Simmons after seven years specialising in private equity at another global law firm, where she was a partner for four years.

Gemma specialises in mid-market private equity, advising sponsors on investments and exits, supporting portfolio companies with acquisitions and reorganisations, and helping management teams to negotiate equity terms. She has a strong track record providing strategic guidance across the investment lifecycle.

In her role to date as partner, Gemma has advised on multiple high-profile and complex transactions for influential clients spanning several sectors – working on both domestic and international mandates.

Gemma’s hire reflects Simmons’ commitment to private equity as a strategic priority. She will join experienced private equity partners Tim Hewens and Richard Kyle and will support the firm at a time of strong activity and rising demand for its services in the private equity space from funds, portfolio companies, management teams and those selling to private equity.

Gemma will take up her new role in the firm’s UK Corporate practice later in the year.

Commenting on her hire, Gemma Phillips said:It’s a fantastic time to join Simmons and its growing private equity team, which has made a strong impression on the market in recent years. I look forward to supporting the practice as it continues on a growth trajectory, drawing on my expertise to support a wider pool of clients in the PE space.

Arthur Stewart, Head of the firm's UK Corporate & Commercial practice, commented:Gemma is an excellent addition to our private equity team and UK Corporate practice. She has a superb record acting for private equity clients on major transactions, supporting them as a valued and trusted advisor. Her hire will immediately enhance our ability to secure further domestic and international mandates; she’ll be a great asset to our team.
