International law firm Simmons & Simmons has announced that it has appointed Patrick Boylan as international head of dispute resolution (DR), effective from 1 May 2025.
The current UK head of DR at Simmons, Patrick will replace Emily Monastiriotis, who was elected to become the firm’s next managing partner.
Joining the firm in 2009, Patrick’s background is in commercial dispute resolution with a strong focus on contentious competition matters, cross-border disputes and civil fraud cases.
As UK DR head, he has been integral to securing multiple high-profile client wins and driving the practice’s recent growth. This has included developing strong expertise in competition class action cases – most recently shown in his team successfully defending BT against a high profile £1.3bn collective action claim.
Simmons’ integrated international DR network specialises in complex multi-jurisdictional cases, supporting clients on arbitration, patent litigation, brand infringements and financial markets litigations, as well as crime, fraud and investigation. As international head of DR, Patrick will lead the firm’s strategy of securing significant mandates and delivering for premium clients.
Commenting on his appointment as international head of dispute resolution, Patrick Boylan said: “I’m very pleased to have been appointed to this role leading the firm’s international dispute resolution practice. Our formidable global network of lawyers has built a strong reputation advising leading clients on highly complex cross-border mandates. I’m looking forward to building on our recent successes, and working with international partners to take the practice to the next level.”
Emily Monastiriotis commented: “Patrick brings to the role deep disputes expertise and wide experience leading our highly successful UK DR practice. I’m excited to work with him in the pursuit of our ambitious growth plans.”
