Compass

Find out from our trainees how our compass development programme has supported their training contract journey.

Pro bono

Clients come to us for our commitment to forward thinking, and you can expect nothing less in our pro bono work. Our lawyers are actively encouraged to take on pro bono work each year, with an aspirational target for all our lawyers to donate at least 25 hours of pro bono work each year. Through our international pro bono practice our lawyers provide free legal advice to individuals in need as well as the NGOs, charities and not-for-profit organisations that support them. That means you’ll see how the world of law supports some extraordinary work, aiding access to justice and tackling social injustice.

"Pro bono work provides a welcome change from day-to-day matters, offering the chance to engage with a diverse range of clients and issues while contributing to meaningful causes. Simmons’ commitment to pro bono ensures there are many opportunities to get involved and make a difference.

I have been fortunate to work on a variety of pro bono matters, including acting for a partially sighted individual in a guide dog refusal case, helping a charity, recover misappropriated funds, and advising Ukrainian refugees on their rights during two weeks in Warsaw with Safe Passage International. These experiences have been incredibly rewarding and have also enabled me to develop new skills, such as working with vulnerable individuals and navigating new and unique legal challenges.

Pro bono work is a reminder of the positive impact we can have as lawyers, and I am proud to be part of a firm that encourages and supports this important aspect of our profession."

Volunteer Lawyer, Simmons & Simmons

All of our lawyers get involved in pro bono work at every stage of their career. And there’ll be plenty of opportunities for you to get involved too!

What makes a law firm a great place to work? We think it’s about the quality of work, and the impact we can make on the future of our clients, our people and the world around us. We’re known for our supportive, collaborative approach. We’re a place of energy. Of thinking differently. Of taking action, and delivering smarter solutions. We’re a place where you can be free to be you. Where inherent curiosity leads to positive enquiry, challenge and question; where a commitment to continuous learning helps to deepen your understanding of colleagues and broaden your perspective on the world. A place for ideas, skills, ambition and innovation. For personal growth and professional challenge. For powering success through trust, respect, integrity and an unwavering commitment to quality. We want everyone to feel welcomed, valued and heard. All kinds of interests come together here – cricket fans and avid readers, netball players and football fans – and our social groups and sports teams are always looking for like-minded people. You’ll find that in our nine networks too, including the LGBTQ+, Gender balance, Race and ethnicity, Social mobility, and Neurodiversity at Simmons networks. It’s a vibrant team, wherever you are, all ready to share in each other’s interests and explore new ones.
